Lemony Steamed Fish

Ingredients:

1 small fish (like sardine, mackerel, or a fillet of salmon/herring — about 100–120g)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

½ teaspoon lemon zest (optional but lovely!)

1 teaspoon olive oil or ghee

1 small garlic clove, finely chopped

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Salt, to taste

A pinch of red chili flakes (optional)

Fresh herbs — coriander, parsley, or dill (a few leaves)

Directions:

Pat dry the fish with a paper towel.

In a small bowl, mix lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, and chili flakes.

Rub this mixture all over the fish (inside and outside if using whole fish).

Let it marinate for 10–15 minutes if you have time.

Set up a steamer or use a simple method:

Place a small rack or bowl upside down inside a large pot with a little water at the bottom.

Place the marinated fish on a heatproof plate, and put it on the rack.

Cover & steam on medium-low for 8–10 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Once done, sprinkle with fresh herbs and a little extra lemon juice if you like!

Serve hot with a light salad, steamed veggies, or some quinoa/millets.
